Inside: The Best New Years Eve Games for Family Fun.
One of my favorite traditions growing up was New Years Eve celebration with my family. We would go to the store and get lots of great snacks and some sparkling grape juice, we would buy party hats and make our own confetti, and play games all night till we rang in the new year together.
It is truly still one of my favorite ways to spend New Years Eve! Let’s play some games the entire family will have fun with.
There are so many great games to play with the family, from Minute to Win It games to board games here is a list of our favorite New Years Eve games for family!

New Years Eve Minute to Win It Games
Face the Cookie: Place a cookie on someone’s forehead. They have to use only their face muscles (no hands) to get it into their mouth.
Keep It Up: Give each player three balloons. They have to keep all three balloons up in the air for a minute.
Choosing Cups: Set out like 25 cups, filling all of them partway with water. Put a sticker on the bottom of some of the cups. Players have to pick one cup at a time, trying to find a sticker.
Wrap It Up: A two-player game where one person has to wrap the other person in streamers, toilet paper, or something else
Bottle to Bottle: Fill one 2-liter bottle with something (Lucky Charms, Jelly Beans, etc.) then tape to another 2-liter bottle – players have to transfer all from one bottle to the other.
Stack Attack: This one might not be as tasty as cookie face, but it’s still pretty popular. Give the kids one single stack of 36 plastic cups. Each child gets one minute to stack all of the cups into a pyramid and then unstack them, making a single column again.
Chandelier: Light up the fun! You’ll need 15 empty soda cans and four paper plates. Kids have one minute to stack cans with paper plates in between to see how high they can go.
Penny Tower: How many pennies can your child stack in one minute? If they just guessed a million, they’re not exactly right. The trick to this game is that the child can only use one hand. And believe us, that makes it oh-so-challenging.
New Years Eve Board Games for the Family
Catan: This is my all-time favorite game! This popular civilization-building board game of harvesting and trading resources definitely takes some time to get used to — but once it clicks, you won’t want to stop playing!
Monopoly Speed: Monopoly is a timeless game that will keep people busy for a couple of hours on end. The hard part? Sometimes it takes a bit too long. Not anymore! You can finish Monopoly Speed in just 10 minutes without forfeiting any of the excitement.
Pass the Pig: This Pass The Pigs dice game isn’t exactly a board game, but it would definitely be a great addition to your collection. Each player tosses the pigs and they gain or lose points depending on how they land. Whoever reaches 100 points first wins the game.
Taboo & Speak Out Mashup: You won’t be able to keep a straight face when playing this game. Prepare to laugh while watching your friends and family struggle with tongue-tying challenges.
Ticket to Ride: In Ticket to Ride the goal is to build the longest railway course. Players choose destination tickets and try to build a railway connecting those cities while attempting to block the routes that their opponents appear to be creating. If you’re just not up for another loud, wild game this is a good choice.
Code Names: Code Name is a very enjoyable game that requires communication and the ability to make some unusual connections. This is a great game of reasoning and lateral thinking.
Clue: Become a detective with Clue and travel from room to be the first one to uncover the murder mystery. I’m a sucker for this classic board game!
More Fun New Years Eve Games for the Family
The Bowl Game: This is the most hilarious game you can play together as a family!
Rose, Bud, Thorn: Each teen takes turns to share their ‘rose, bud, thorn’ for the year. Rose is something good, Thorn is something bad, Bud is something they’re looking forward to or are hopeful for.
Candy Tape Ball: I love this game! The point of the game is to unwrap your candy ball before the next persons turn. Here is a full tutorial on how to make the ball and how to play the game!
Defy Gravity: Using only one hand, players must keep two balloons from touching the ground for one minute. For a more challenging game, increase the amount to three balloons per player! Or use different colored balloons for each player to make it easy to differentiate! No holding the balloons!
Needle in a Corn Stack: Then the challenge was to find the three kernels in one minute! You can easily make this game more difficult for older kids by using a larger bowl and more corn.
